Welcome

Spin spin

I’ve been busy busy on the spinning wheel. I got 8oz of alpaca roving spun over the last two weeks or so and with some new technology (a hand crank bobbin winder and five storage bobbins) and some advice (replace drive band), I got it off the wheel and plied it in a day on the wheel. It’s a three ply yarn and super duper soft. Ended up being about 350 yards of yarn.

A jet black yarn held until a grow light.

I attempted some flax spinning yesterday and it isn’t quite right so I need to fiddle with it some more. Blessings to the bobbin gods, because I pulled it off my wheel and onto a bobbin and started spinning up this beautiful roving. It’s from targhee sheep and it is wonderful to spin because I can long draw it so easily and I don’t need to pre-draft it at all, I can spin it pretty much right from the braid which I super love.

A top down view of a spinning wheel, on the left is a blue to white colored braid of roving and on the right is a bobbin of spun yarn in deep blue that matches the roving.

and the color is amazing!!! I’ve got two braids of this, so 8oz total and I think I’m going to do a 2 ply yarn with it.

I think when I finish this braid, I’m going to attempt some more flax and then go to the second braid. I also received some lovely roving in the mail today from a ravelry buy so I’m a happy camper.
